Salicylic Acid Review

Derived from beta hydroxy acid, salicylic acid is a popularly used acne treatment that can be found in many a brand. It functions as a plant hormone and is derived from the metabolism of salicin. It is similar to the active component of aspirin as well as white willow bark, and it has been used to treat acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns, keratosis, pilaris, warts, and in an extreme case, a mutated disease otherwise known as the “tree man.” Some have also used it to treat dandruff. It causes dead skin cells and excess skin cells to shed away, and it opens the pores to allow bacteria out and not cause the same buildup. It has multiple uses, and multiple benefits. But it is best known for its treatment of acne and is therefore popularly used.
