La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Review

You can discuss the causes of acne all day long, but the fact of the matter is if you already have a blemish it doesn’t matter how you got it as much as how you can get rid of it. Every different delivery system for an acne treatment has its advantages and disadvantages when trying to eliminate acne. An acne cream, like the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, melts into the skin delivering much needed nutrients which means the formula gets to set in your skin and work longer than things like cleansers.

La Roche-Posay is an international skin care brand, so off hand the corrective cream should be decent quality. The skincare cream should help with imperfections and clogged pores to help encourage healthier looking skin.

So if this cream works, how does it work? The main power behind the Effaclar Duo cream is four active ingredients. One of the key ingredients is 5.5% benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide has anti-bacterial properties to kill bacteria and help reduce inflammation. Before you get excited about 5.5% benzoyl peroxide, know that studies report that the strength of benzoyl peroxide beyond 2.5% is not significantly different. The point is, the cream has the effective dosage but don’t be impressed that it doubles the average treatment.

Effaclar Duo also has 0.4% linoleic acid to help exfoliate the skin while retaining moisture in order to reduce acne. An additional active ingredient includes piroctone olamine, which is used in dandruff shampoos so this ingredient is practically useless.

There are some studies that show that Effaclar Duo reduces acne in three days, which may be true but the formula is really reliant on benzoyl peroxide which makes spending around $35 for this cream a little too much. The thing is, is that there are plenty of benzoyl-peroxide based treatments for acne that are cheaper and they will be just as effective.
